About the show

A color-conscious political podcast offering insight to today’s most pressing political issues.

What else should I know about the show?

Host Steve Phillips, author of NY Times bestseller Brown Is the New White, is one of the leading voices in the country challenging the Democratic Party to unapologetically embrace the voters of color who comprise nearly half of all Democratic voters.

As one of the nation’s top political thought leaders, Phillips invites listeners to learn how the key to Democrats and the progressive ecosystem winning and saving our democracy lies in running towards, rather than away from the societal flashpoints of racial and economic justice. As a thought leader who is unafraid and unapologetic about grappling with some of the toughest topics in politics, Phillips centers the fight against white supremacy and racism and mobilizing the New American Majority—people of color and progressive whites.

This show will illuminate the proven path to victory and also introduce listeners to the “Hidden Figures” of the movement who are driving the engine of social and political change in this country.

Special guests will include key national leaders, activists, organizers, strategists and writers. Sharline Chiang, Democracy in Color’s director of strategic communications, joins regularly as co-host. Dr. Julie Martinez Ortega, a leading national expert on political data and research, is regularly featured in a segment called, “The Doctor Is In,” where she talks about the math, rather than the myths, that explain what’s happening in national politics.
